Block Watch Captain Responsibilities
Serving as the Block Watch
Captain isn't time-consuming, and you do not have to be home at all times in
order to volunteer. The primary
function of a Block Watch Captain is to act as a communication link between
Block Watch Members and the Crime Prevention Unit of the Travis County Sheriff
Department.
The responsibilities of the
Block Watch Captain and Co-captain include:
- Collect neighbor information to start a telephone tree and
update as needed.
- Act as liaison and communication link with the
volunteer Block Watch Committee, Travis County Sheriff’s Office, and the
participants on your block as well as distribute necessary material.
- Encourage neighbors to attend the Block Watch
meetings. Encourage block residents
to communicate with each other.
- Co-ordinate and host initial neighborhood meeting for
your block/area to begin the Block Watch program. From there, yearly meetings are
recommended. Communicate frequently
and meet quarterly (or as needed) with Block Watch Committee. Why not during a fun block party or
other get-together?
Alert neighbors are your
best defense!
